November is the month you can still get most of the fall beers, and the winter styles are coming in. Here in South Florida we get a head start on the 'festival season' with several different festivals planned for November. The temperatures are dropping; it will be great to get outside, enjoy a cool breeze and a good seasonal brew. Ribfest is at the zoo this weekend. See below for more details. On November 16th, the 6th annual Treasure Coast Beer Fest will be at the Civic Center in Port St Lucie. On November 23rd, FIU will have their second annual BrewFest at the Biscayne campus. This is a small festival and features local breweries and homebrewers. More details in the article below.
Locally, Wynwood Brewing has officially opened; I visited on the first night and enjoyed the new brewery and brews. Production has ramped up so their beer is now appearing at local watering holes. See photos from that night on the GBL FB page.
Ribfest is at Zoo Miami this weekend November 1-3, 2013. Ribfest is a three-day outdoor grilling extravaganza where national ribbers compete for trophies and bragging rights. Ribfest not only features great food, but live entertainment, arts and crafts and a host of family-friendly activities. Ribfest offers attendees the option of bundling Zoo Miami and Ribfest entertainment for one great price! Come out Saturday and get a bit of beer history along with sampling of some of the brews in the VIP area. I will be giving the talk on beer at 2:30...see you there.
The "Style of the Month" for November is Bière de Garde, a style brewed in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. These beers were originally brewed and stored for future use, similar to a Belgian Saison. Pairs with many different foods; it's the perfect Thanksgiving beer.
The Brewery of the Month for November is Woodstock Inn Brewery of North Woodstock, NH. Woodstock has been brewing for over 14 years as a part of the Woodstock Inn Station and Brewery. Recent expansion to a full production brewery has made the beer available throughout New England. On my recent trip to the area, I spent two nights at the Woodstock Inn.
Since I can't get to every brewery or brewpub in the country, occasionally a Guest Reviewer will review a brewery I haven't visited. Recently, Jeff Pearl visited Stoudts brewery and shared some pictures and thoughts on the GBL 2013 review page. It looks like a pretty cool place.
